American Type Founders Company
Summary
[The American Type Founders Company (ATF) was formed out of a business necessity. Led by John Marder of the Chicago Type Foundry and Arthur Brower of the Union Type Foundry, several other type founders created a combined company of twenty-three plants scattered across the United States, which was incorporated by November 1892. Annenberg dates this catalog as approximately 1901, but also notes that a former ATF type manager dated its issue as 1905., "Notice! All the cuts shown in this book are not carried by the different houses, but they will be furnished with reasonable promptness. Many of the cuts are shown in the American Line Type Book, but the prices are not the same, as this book was printed previously. The material shown in this book will be billed by prices as listed in the Index and Price-list"]
