Summary
Stephenson, Blake and Company was active from the early 19th century until the 1990s as the last active type foundry in Britain. The type foundry was begun in Sheffield, South Yorkshire by William Garnett and John Stephenson, with financial backing from James Blake, in 1818. In 1819, the partners acquired the Caslon type foundry. After various changes in ownership, the company would operate as Stephenson, Blake & Co. from 1841-1905. In 1914, the business became a limited liability company styled Stephenson, Blake & Co. Ltd. This catalog includes: type metal, cuts, ornaments, and rule, and a small amount of wood type. --Stephenson, Blake & Co. Ltd. Printing types (1924), vii-xiv
