Summary:
Commissioned in 1939 by the Rural Electrification Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to communicate the benefits of electricity to citizens in outlying areas of the country. This is an early example of American graphic design applied to public service, and is one of six posters from Series Two. The poster depicts a farmer holding the head of a draft horse (black and white photograph silhouette), against a white and light green background. A red arrow point down towards the horse. Silkscreen printing technique.

The Lester Beall Collection was donated to the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1984 by his children, Joanna Beall Westermann and Lester Beall Jr. It was transferred to the Special Collections at Wallace Library in February 1991. The collection provides exhaustive documentation of the life and work of Beall (1903-1969), a seminal figure in the history of American graphic design. The collection includes 47 posters.
