Commissioned in 1937 by the Rural Electrification Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to communicate the benefits of electricity to citizens in outlying areas of the country. This is an early example of American graphic design applied to public service, and is one of the Series One posters. The poster depicts a black house with a white wringer-style washing machine inside, against a dark blue and gold background. From the right side, five white arrows point to the washing machine. Silkscreen printing technique.

The Lester Beall Collection was donated to the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1984 by his children, Joanna Beall Westermann and Lester Beall Jr. It was transferred to the Special Collections at Wallace Library in February 1991. The collection provides exhaustive documentation of the life and work of Beall (1903-1969), a seminal figure in the history of American graphic design. The collection includes 47 posters.
