Students with service star flag, Eastman Building, Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute
Summary:
Two unidentified students point to the service star flag hanging in the lower hall of the Eastman Building at the Plymouth Ave. S. entrance during World War II. Flag represents a total of 1097 current or former RAMI students and faculty in service during this time. The 12 gold stars are for those who made the supreme sacrifice. Registrar Alfred A. Johns kept records of the men who were in service. A blood drive for that year sponsored by members of the Inter-sorority, set a goal of receiving a pint of blood for each service man and woman before the end of the year.
