Chester Carlson (1906-1969) was an American physicist who was the inventor of xerography, an electrostatic dry-copying process that found applications ranging from office copying to reproducing out-of-print books. Carlson is memorialized at RIT by the naming of the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science in Rochester, New York, Xerox's hometown.
