Plaque reads: "The awards listed below are given annually to faculty who have been nominated by faculty, staff or students and recognize outstanding achievement, teaching and scholarly excellence as well as encouraging student learning, professional growth, and development. The Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching- The univsersity's hightest teaching award recognizes tenured faculty who contribute most to enhance student learning and encourages the professional growth and development of the faculty. The Richard and Virginia Eisenhart Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching- Recognizes the fundamental importance of quality teaching to the value of the educational process and supports pre-tenured faculty who have taught three years or less in their persuit of excellence in teaching and leadership. These awards are named in honor of the Eisenhart family. The late M. Herbert Eisenhart, the former president and board chairman of Bausch and Lomb, Inc. and a 50-year RIT trustee, and his wife, Elsa Bausch Eisenhart, created the Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching. Their son, Richard Eisenhart, chairman emeritus of the Board of Trustees and a 26-year member, and his wife, Virginia, continued the family's legacy by endowing the Richard and Virginia Eisenhart Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching. The Trustees Scholarship Award- Recognizes faculty who have demonstrated an excellent record of academic scholarship at RIT over at least a three-year period. Outstanding Teaching Award for Non-Tenure-Track Faculty- Recognizes excellence in teaching by non-tenure-track faculty who have made a significant commitment to students at RIT.
