Army discharge papers signed by George Washington as follows: By His Excellency George Washington, Esg; General and Commander in Chief of the Forces of the United States of America. These are to certify that the bearer hereof John Stump Private in the Second New York Regiment, having faithfully served the United States five years and being inlisted for the War only, is hereby discharged from the American Army. Given at head quarters the (signature of George Washington) by his excellency's William Van Denburgh command, registered in the books of the regiment, Christ. Smith, adjutant.
