Document that reads as follows: By the President of the United States of America suffer the Ship John of New Bedford Cornelius Grinnell master or commander of the burthen of two hundred ninety seven and 30/90 tons or thereabouts, mounted with no guns, navigated with thirteen men, to pass with her company, passengers, goods and merchandise, without any hindrance, seizure or molestation: the said Ship appearing, by good testimony, to belong to one or more of the Citizens of the United States, and to him or them only. Given under my Hand and the Seal of the United States of America, the fourteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one. Signed by John Adams and Charles Lee, Secretary of State pro-tempore.
