The American Type Founders Company (ATF) was formed out of a business necessity. Led by John Marder of the Chicago Type Foundry and Arthur Brower of the Union Type Foundry, several other type founders created a combined company of twenty-three plants scattered across the United States, which was incorporated by November 1892. Annenberg dates this catalog as approximately 1901, but also notes that a former ATF type manager dated its issue as 1905.
